Nominations Open for Student’ Halo Hero Humanitarian Awards 2016

The Halo Hero Humanitarian Awards are to be bestowed upon deserving students at the primary, secondary and tertiary school levels, whose inspiring acts of bravery and kindness have made a difference in the lives of others.

Three gold medals, known as the “Halo Hero Medal for Humanity”, will be bestowed upon deserving students. Along with the Halo Hero Medal for Humanity, the recipients of this award at the primary and secondary levels will be given EC $1000.00 in recognition of their outstanding deeds.

At the tertiary level, the student who qualifies will be presented with a full 4-year scholarship, “The Henley and Partners Hero Scholarship”, tenable at Saint Mary’s University in Canada. Deadline for the scholarship is July 29th, whereas applications for the primary and secondary award must be submitted by August 10th. Lady Sandra Williams, President and Founder of The Halo Foundation, commented: “There are countless examples globally of ‘big courage on little shoulders’.

The National Bravery Awards in India, for example, showed the world how phenomenal children can be –even at the tender age of seven — when faced with situations of fear and danger. Kindness, consideration and courage are certainly not qualities which are a function of age.” Lady Williams said that acts of violence amongst our youth induce a serious cause for concern. “We want to encourage the young people to think more about being respectful and honourable, and less about bullying, violence and ruining of others’ lives through baselessly cruel acts – both verbal and nonverbal.

Our mission is to further promote the protection of the vulnerable in our society, while at the same time rewarding the efforts of those who have lent unselfish assistance and invaluable support to fellow human beings”. Deadline for the scholarship is July 29th, whereas applications for the primary and secondary award must be submitted by August 10th. Application forms can be downloaded from www.foundationhalo.org, or collected from Government House, Independence Avenue, St.John’s.
