Sailability / NSA receives Halo donation

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – 14th April, 2015…….The Halo Foundation recently  presented the National Sailing Academy and Sailability with a donation of EC$1000.

At a brief handover gathering, Lady Sandra WIlliams, wife of Governor General Sir Rodney Williams and President of the Halo Foundation, remarked,  “The NSA and Sailability are great assets to our economy.  Not only do they provide training and employment  through the fantastic efforts of Ms. Elizabeth Jordan and Mr. Bob Bailey respectively, but the facility  — along with its units of accommodation —  is a welcome addition to our tourism product. And quite apart from that, the Sailability programme works with those who have various disabilities from institutions across the country, including the Care Project and the Adele School for the Blind.  Some of these challenged individuals will become very good sailors.  For others, it is a therapeutic and pleasurable experience.”

The National Sailing Academy offers the opportunity for school children from Antigua to learn to swim and sail (both national sports)  free of charge. It is a non-profit charitable organization which is administered by a volunteer board. According to the website, “no other sport in Antigua can offer our young people the number and variety of employment opportunities – – as well as becoming competitive racing sailors, they could, in time, become captains, crew, bosuns, engineers, riggers, sailmakers, sailing instructors etc.  The first step is to get them involved in the sport”.

The Academy currently depends upon donations for its operations.
