SERVICE ABOVE SELF

The Rotary Club of Antigua was chartered on September 10, 1972 and sponsored by the Rotary Club of St. Kitts and Fred Lam. The club has about 43 members and is one of two Rotary Clubs in Antigua.

Our service club draws its members from a wide range of occupations.  It is part of Rotary International, which has about 1.2 million members in more than 32,000 clubs in over 200 countries and geographies. The Club meets every Wednesday at City View Hotel on Newgate Street in St. Johns at 12:30 pm for lunch, fellowship, networking and to plan projects.

As part of Rotary’s ideal of service, the Rotary Club of Antigua has carried out a variety of projects in the following areas:

  1. Health
  2. Education
  3. Social/Out Reach
  4. Career guidance information to school leavers.
  5. Fund Raising – The many fund raising efforts which include Car Raffles, the West Indian Food Festivals, and more recently our Pre-Carnival Colours fete have all been very successful.
  6. Rotary International and District

Projects in the community include: helping to create and equip two remedial reading schools and trained several teachers in remedial education; providing training for over 600 persons including contractors, tradesmen and prospective home owners, provided medical/surgical assistance to many Antiguans, participated in the Gift of Life programme and Gift of Sight programme, reading and literacy projects, providing computers and ancillary equipment to the State College under its Computer Literacy Programme, providing less fortunate children with a special Christmas party, contributions to a continuing effort to eradicate polio internationally; and participating in coastal cleanups.

Since its inception, members of the Rotary Club of Antigua have participated in the Rotary International Conventions and its District Conferences. The club also actively participated in and received benefit for its community from the Group Study Exchange and the Ambassadorial Scholarship programme and the Rotary Foundation. There are over 40 Paul Harris Fellow Awards the Club has been very supportive of the Rotary Foundation..

Within its 39 year History the Rotary Club of Antigua has provided to the District two Governors.

The 1st being Charter member Gerald Thomas who served for the year 1991-92. The second Malcolm Edward who served for the year 1996-97.

We believe that during our short existence we have achieved in a small way Rotary’s objective and we pledge to continue in our efforts toward achieving the goal of Rotary, to ennoble the world by friendship and to help create a world where order, service to humanity, and peace prevail.
