The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Antigua and Barbuda

Launched February 3rd, 2020, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Antigua and Barbuda (HSFAB) is a non-profit organization geared towards educating the populace about two of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in our nation: heart disease and stroke.

Under the theme ‘Mind Your Heart,’ the HSFAB’s mission is to promote heart and brain health through: sharing knowledge of risk factors, and related information, on prevention and control of heart disease and stroke, encourage healthy eating habits, promote lifestyle modification and the importance of exercise and stress management, and also educate persons on the role rest and social behavior plays in heart and brain health.

Through fundraisers, community events, and local research into the prevalence of heart disease and stroke, the foundation’s aim is to act as a voice and support system for patients and families. The vision for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Antigua and Barbuda is to educate all citizens about the staggering increase of cardiovascular disease among Antiguans and Barbudans, and to spread knowledge about how the disease is affecting both young and old.

The organization was founded by Consultant Cardiologist, Dr. Georgette Meade, Dr. Rasheda Williams, and Sumita Balooja. Its Board of Directors also include, local businessman, Vijay Tewani and Valerie Gonsalves-Barreiro.
