The newly launched Antigua Opera Society, a non-profit organisation,  recently performed to great acclaim at 3 venues in the English Harbour Area, inclusive of the National Sailing Academy and Catherine’s Cafe. A high powered team of opera glitterati from Italy enthralled the audiences with their rendition of some all-time favourite arias.

Sir Rodney and Lady Williams, Patrons of the Opera Society, applauded the organisers for their successful event. In his speech, Sir Rodney indicated that with effort and investment, the Opera and Classical Festival could become an annual attraction on Antigua and Barbuda’s calendar.

On the last evening, an outstanding performance was given by local singers Rashid Walker and Adrian Henry.

The Antigua Opera Society team of volunteers also visited the St. Mary’s School of Excellence in Bolans  Village, along with the opera stars. The objective of the exercise was to expose the students to opera singing techniques and encourage them to appreciate a different genre of music.
