Halo Foundation Awards Young Artists in Schools

The Halo Foundation Inc. today hosted an awards ceremony for winners of the 1st Halo Christmas Card Competition 2015. The event was held in the Investiture Room of historic Government House, and was attended by art teachers and students of the winning schools, as well as parents.

There were over 300 entries from a cross section of 12 private and government schools in Antigua and Barbuda. “We were very pleased with the response from the participating schools, and we look forward to even more design submissions in 2016”, said Halo’s President and Founder, Lady Sandra Williams.

“It is a genuine opportunity for young people from 6 to 19 years of age to share their beautiful work and extreme talent. We are in awe of the extent of creativity that thrives within our nation, and will definitely play our small part in encouraging to mould young fine art painters, potters and photographers”.

The overall prizewinner was River Andrews of Island Academy – and this school also emerged as the overall winning institution, with entries that were of an overwhelmingly high standard. Cards with the River Andrews design were made available for sale, and all proceeds from the sales will go towards assisting the 24 charities under the patronage of Sir Rodney Williams and Lady Williams.

All winners were presented with monetary prizes, and first place awardees in each age category also received art supplies. The top student and school were both honoured with trophies.
